cup Wanna share my room? (2)

First things first: Please go to the website and tell us when you’re coming, who you want to sleep with (of the available options), if you need somewhere to stay during A Week in Denmark … and all that jazz.

Log on to the information super highway: www.knudepunkt.org/login.asp

This is actually important, so please do it right away, whereas the rest of the information in this newsletter is probably on a nice-to-know basis.

A Week in Denmark program is online

It’s going to be a tremendous, action-packed Week in Denmark. You can check out the program, which is now online. But keep on checking, there may be changes, even while you’re in Denmark.

Go to www.knudepunkt.org/aweek.php A Week is casual activities and you are not required or limited to attend any number of days. Some of the activities have a limited number of participants; to secure a spot you can sign up for these at the community house Kraftwerket. We will go a long way to support public demand, but it is not possible with all events.

If you’re going, please login at the link above – we need to know, if you need somewhere to sleep :-)

Program: 56 items

We promised you 50 program items, but there’s going to be 56. That’s great going (of you!). This means that Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there’s going to be from 5 to 7 program items going on at any given time. There’s going to be a select few interesting program items on Thursday evening, but the majority will be on the rest of the days.

We’ll post the program on the website some time before the convention, but here’s a little appetizer:

Key note: Larp can change the world

We have an extremely exciting key note on the program. It’s on how larp can be used as a method in developing democracies in Eastern Europe. In a string of program events, we will put a concrete and practical focus on how larp can be used as a method to change the society. As an example on possible places to do this, we have flown in representatives from developing democracies in Eastern Europe. It’s going to be really interesting, so look forward to it.

Take me to Helsinge!

We’re working on a bus from A Week in Denmark to the Knudepunkt location. It’ll cost around 30 kroner, which is about half what public transportation costs you. If you are in Copenhagen on Thursday, the bus will drive at approx. 14.00 (2pm) from Kraftwerket, the A Week in Denmark community house. All Knudepunkt participants are welcome, including those who don’t participate in A Week in Denmark.

Short news

  • The book is done and will be ready for Knudepunkt.
  • We could still use more hosts for A Week in Denmark, please contact Ryan at rr@knudepunkt.org
  • Our cooks are working on the menu, and it sounds delicious!
  • We’re going to sell the last copies of the old KP03 book. If you have spare books from’01, ‘04, ‘05 or ‘06, please bring them and sell them.
We’re counting the days now. See you in the middle of February

Come as James Bond or Jaws, as M or Q, as Ursula Andress or Halle Berry (please do!) – or whatever else inspires you.

newsletter december 2006
...like it's 1999

You take 170 larpers of 12 nationalities...

Sign up is going great. In fact, it’s going much better than we had anticipated. So far, more than 170 larpers from 12 different countries have signed up. Besides Danes, Finns, Swedes and Norwegians a cup of Knudepunkt is spiced with Americans, Brits, Belgians, Croatians, Czechs, Germans, Italians and Israelis (and the secret ingredient is a Swiss/Finnish mixture of sorts).

This is gonna be great!

Signing up

If you haven’t already signed up, please do so as soon as possible – you can do it all from www.knudepunkt.org.

Also, please remember, that you should pay before January 22nd – otherwise, the price goes up. So it’s probably a good idea to pay in the beginning of January.

Oh – and please tell your friends. We want their company as well! You can check out a list of who have signed up here.

Program stuff

The program group has been working hard all autumn trying to motivate clever people to prepare clever items for the program. At Knutpunkt 2006, we promised you, we would provide 50 program items. Here at the end of 2006 we have 42 confirmed items for Knudepunkt 2007! Pretty damn good if we may say so ourselves.

So if you have an idea for the program please go to our website and fill in the program form now - there are not room for that many more. Please hurry. Even if you only have a loose sketch for an item, please fill in the form so you can be sure to get a spot in the program.

Also, if you want to do a program item, but doesn’t have a great idea yourself, here are some subjects, we could suggest (but haven’t been able to find people for):

  • Setting the world - How to build a lasting universe
  • Tecnology in larps - Do's and dont's
  • Horror, a practical solution
  • Group dynamics
  • Safe weapons
  • Dance workshop
  • Battle techniques
  • "Minstrels' workshop"
  • Character play, Status Play
  • Living off costuming
  • Trends in fantasy costumes
  • Simple and Cheap Special Effects for larp

If none of these inspire you please feel free to contact us for many more: ld@knudepunkt.org.

Creative juices

Just to get the urges flowing to go to the next Knudepunkt, here are some highlights from the 2007 program:

  • A lecture about how to make a perfect larp with minimum effort
  • Learn how to become a larp saint
  • Listen to the creators of the first Danish Larp School
  • Drink at the Cava Workshop and smoke cigars at the old farts workshop.

113.600 cm2 of paper later...

The book is coming alone fine. Currently, editors, lay outers and proofreaders are working hard to get the book finished during the first week of January. See a list of contributors at the forum.

We can’t wait to February – happy new year (take care out there)!

money, beer and an article on character ethics

From Allan with Love

Allan who probably has a surname as well is The Man. He works at Brøckhouse has sponsored part of the bar. This micro brewery makes some of the best beer in Denmark, so we’re really thrilled about this. Most of the organisers will spend a lot of time in the bar, anyhow. This is Allan: - salute him, if you see him.

What an event!

Midgaard Event – a roleplaying-inspired event company – has sponsored Knudepunkt with 10.000 DKK and free use of their car. Thanks to them!

We’ve told you about Mittelpunkt before, the German Knudepunkt. Now, Boris "Silent Bob" Bernhard has just informed Steve Jordan that the international version of the MittelPunkt website is online.
